Espresso, Latte, Flat White: What’s the Difference?

A friendly guide to the drinks you see on every coffee menu.

Many classic coffee drinks start with the same foundation: espresso. What changes is the amount of milk, the texture of the foam, and the size of the cup.

Espresso

A short, concentrated shot with a layer of crema on top. It’s bold, aromatic, and the base for most milk drinks.

Latte

Espresso with plenty of steamed milk and a light layer of foam. It’s smooth, creamy, and a great canvas for flavours like vanilla or caramel.

Flat White

A smaller drink with a double shot and silky microfoam. The coffee flavour shines through more clearly than in a latte.

Which One Is Right for You?

If you want comfort, go for a latte. If you want coffee to lead, try a flat white. If you want the purest taste, start with espresso.
